HOW DO WE CAPTURE OUR IMAGES?
Capturing wildlife is challenging because wild animals are unpredictable and more than likely afraid of our presence in their environment. Even more so underwater inhabitants can sense and or hear you from miles away, which makes it impossible to see them if they don't want to be seen. This challenge is why we are continually surprised and amazed every time we enter the ocean and are able to capture these moments.
Using breathe hold techniques, The Love Waters free dive to capture most of their images. Without scuba equipment it allows them to get closer to their subjects and capture them in unique ways. With just their lungs they defend to depths around 60ft for some of their images and bring them back to the surface for others to enjoy and share with their friends and family.
The Love Waters use SCUBA to stay at deeper depths for longer amounts of time. Using scuba allows them to conducts surveys, document wildlife behavior and explore longer. An estimated 50%-80% of all life on earth lives in the ocean. Our planet is 70% ocean and 30% land, we have only explored 10% of our oceans. These facts motivate The Love Waters to spend as much of their time as possible in the ocean, exploring and recording their findings using the best technology available.
The image on the right was captured by Devin Hume on a free dive with his partner Abbey Koshak, off the coast of Kailua Kona,Hawaii. A schoaling school of Akule or big eyed scad fish presented themselves in the shape of a heart. Devin and Abbey dive with this fish ball almost daily, as they are residents of the bay where The Love Waters reside.
"I THOUGHT I HAD JUST CAPTURED A ONCE IN A LIFE TIME MOMENT, BUT ON A DIFFERENT DAY ABBEY CAPTURED THE FISH BALL IN A HEART SHAPE AS WELL. " - Devin
